Children’s Ministry
What Can You Expect from our Children’s Ministry at Prince of Peace (POP)?
Children are welcome at POP! We follow the “Safe Sanctuaries, Safe Gatherings” policy and requirements of The United Methodist Church to nurture, care for, love, and protect each child as a child of God.
- We provide Nursery Care for infants up to age three (3) during worship so that parents will have a meaningful worship experience. The Nursery is on the Lower Level and is open a few minutes before the worship service begins at 10:00 am.
- We have a one-room Sunday School for children ages four (4) through fifth (5th) grade during worship. Eligible children start their Sunday morning experience in the sanctuary at our 10:00 am worship service, sitting with their parents or whoever brought them to church. 10 to 15 minutes into the service they are invited to collect food for our neighbors from the congregation and put it in baskets near the altar. Then they follow their Sunday School teacher to class on the Lower Level.
- On the first Sunday of every month we serve Holy Communion, and children are invited to receive the Communion meal of bread and juice from the communion servers.
- During one week every summer we offer a four-evening Vacation Bible School (VBS) for POP children and children from the community around us. The VBS includes dinner and many activities and stories focused on God’s love. Details about the VBS will be up on this website in late spring or early summer each year.
As a church we at POP care for the children in our midst and aim to help them flourish in God’s love and wisdom. We understand our call is to care for, nurture, and protect the children who come here to attend church or participate in activities. We remember that Jesus said, “Whoever welcomes such a child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me” (Mark 9:37). Because Jesus said so clearly that when we welcome a child, we welcome Jesus himself, we make sure every child is welcome and safe in our congregation. Jesus also said; “Let the little children come to me, do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. He took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them” (Mark 10:14b, 16). We model this joyfully at Prince of Peace, welcoming and blessing the children here.
We look forward to welcoming you and your child(ren) at our church. If you have any questions about our Children’s Ministry, please call the Church Office at 847-439-0668.
